Since it’s been a few years since I had Christmas at home it’s nice to see that all my wee family’s non-tradition traditions have held up so nicely. We don’t make a big deal out of the holidays but it’s still nice to do nice stuff together. This morning my sister and her partner came over for brunch and presents in the morning. Becca crocheted me this awesome purple octopus, which here I am modeling for your viewing pleasure upon my uncombed hair.
Mom put some decorations on one of her potted palms, which you can sort of see in the background. There she is in front, being a good sport and wearing a shirt I embroidered for her. Keeping that hidden from her while I was working on it was hard. She made the palm leaf thing on the door, too. We were all pretty crafty this year.
Becca and Mike had other family obligations, so after fritatta and panettone and their outright refusal to be photographed in their Christmas pajamas for my blog, Mom and I took our usual bike ride to the state park, which is much closer to the new house than it is to the old.
We got there right before sunset and had to wait in a line of care with our bikes to pay the entrance fee. There were a ton of people out, rollerblading and fishing and cooking out and driving these funny little pedal-carts you can rent near the lighthouse. We rode around and looked at things and I felt very glad to be in Florida on Christmas day.
We looked at the rich peoples’ boats.
We slowed for manatees.
I attempted to do some traditional Christmas sea-wall yoga.
After the sun set I made a dinner comprised of nothing but roasted vegetables, texted the UK, spoke with New Zealand, read my book, hung my laundry out, worked on my embroidery, and ate some of my Christmas chocolate. I’m going to maybe have one more sneaky bite of panettone before I snuggle up with the little baby kitty and a movie. It’s been a nice day, Christmas or otherwise.
I hope you’ve had a good day too.

Ohhhhh your pictures make me homesick for Tampa! And I didn’t get to make my usual trek down this year, so I was a little sad yesterday. I also picked yesterday to quit smoking – how awesome of an idea was that? But I surprised myself by acting mostly normal.
But, both not going to FL and quitting smoking is because we’re on the fast track to hopefully procreating, so very good reasons for both. We are doing in vitro and the next couple of weeks are going to be busy ones. But I’m very excited – we’ve been married almost ten years, so I’ve been ready for awhile. It will be unbelievable if I can finally silence my biological clock.
I’m so glad you had a serene and lovely day yesterday with your mom and sister. I know things are going to get very hectic for you very soon too, so I’m glad you were able to relax and enjoy this day.
i LOVE your moms shirt!!
