Ways To Get On My Good Side

I have a good side. Did you just think that I was a big ball of nervous-babbling, snappish, dysthymic goopiness? Did you? Well, I’m not, not all the time. On occasion, I am cute and flirty and, I daresay, bubbly, even. I have been known to be thoughtful and well-spoken, and, once in a great while, well-dressed. This is the Chiara you’d like to see more of, yes? Well, that’s where this entry comes in, in all its self-centered glory, because I am going to tell you just what to do if you want to see smiles from my direction.

Lend Me A Good Book
And have good taste, please, in books. I like it best when you press it into my hands and look in my eyes and say, in a low, fervent voice, “Read this. You must read this.” You’re free to buy me a book too.

Do Your Homework When I Give You Homework in Therapy
Dude, it’s your therapy, okay? I’m not forcing you to be here, am I? (Although maybe the court is, to be fair). But hey, you’re here, you said you were interested in making some changes, so do like I tell you, okay? Seriously. And be on time, too.

Do Like I Tell You, In General
Nothing will get you on my good side faster, or assure your permanent place on the aforementioned side. I especially like it if you ask me for advice (not that you ever do!), and then take it, and then it turns out I was right. Runner up is if I gave you unsolicited advice (and you know I always do!), and you don’t take it, and then I turn out to be right anyway.

Send Me Flowers
As my mom did today.

Engage Me In A Good Conversation
Lately I am enjoying thinking and talking about how we, in this time and place, (i.e. middle class, mostly white Americans living in the twenty-first century) are different and think and act and talk and feel differently from other people in other times and places. Today at lunch we talked about the folks who built all the European cathedrals, and how their faith to them was really different from the way we think about faith now, and how we’re coming from a church/state separation perspective, and how they didn’t, and also how we can’t really understand what it would have been like to work on something your whole life and never see it completed, like thousands of the people who worked as stonemasons or woodcarvers or whatever, but never got to see Salisbury Cathedral or the Duomo or whatever. If you know something about something like that, and you see me around, please tell me all about it, okay?

Cook With Or For Me
As I think I’ve mentioned before, I’m a big fan of food. Lately I’m reading a lot about it, too, and that makes me want to cook, and of course eat, more. If you are a very good cook, or even if you’re not so good but you like good ingredients and you like to talk and taste and dance around and listen to music in the kitchen while you’re cooking, then you’re invited to my house this weekend for dinner. Actually, let’s make it yours because my kitchen is really small.

Be A Cat
This one’s easy.

Give Me Lots of Money
Also self-evident.

Tell Me You Like My Not-Super-New-But-Still-Very-Nice Haircut
In case you’re looking to pick up some extra credit on the test.

Call Or Email Me Just To Say You Love Me
Chances are, I love you too, and I have just been waiting for you to tell me so I can tell you right back.
